This years' game will be played at Benedictine University due to resurfacing at Wilde Field. Thank you Benedictine University! Located at 5700 College Road. November 23, 2007 ~ 12 pm - 3 pm Daily Herald article by Susan Dibble 11-22-07
Turkey Bowl History The original game actually began in grade school for a bunch of guys who had nothing to do on the day after Thanksgiving. Eventually this group of guys from Lisle High School class of '79 (my brother Brian and some of his friends) started a pick up touch football game just for fun. As time went on a teacher suggested that if they are just goofing around, they might think about playing to raise money to help a charity. I believe in the first game played the money raised went to Muscular Dystrophy. By summer 1975 I began displaying symptoms that eventually would be diagnosed as Multiple Sclerosis, so the game's donations switched to MS. I'm so grateful to everyone who has raised money for the Turkey Bowl, last year the money raised helped me to get a vaccine treatment started, it works great!!! It is the same treatment that Alan Osmond ahs been using for the past 2 years. I'm out of the wheelchair now and just using my cane and sometimes no cane at all!!! I have a long way to go, but will stay the course, the treatment is slow going, a patient has to look for subtle changes that eventually turn into bigger ones like not needing my wheelchair to get around the house! It will be interesting to see where I am by Turkey Bowl 33! I want to say thanks to anyone who was kind enough to donate to my treatment fund last year, I now have an anonymous donor helping me out so that I may continue with treatment that is working so well! Thank you so much I could not have started this successful therapy without all of you raising the money I so desperately needed ! - Lisa Quick
If you would like to get an idea of a typical day for me please check this page.
Brian's thoughts about playing the Turkey Bowl year after year is that the soreness he feels the next day and the difficulty he has moving around during his normal everyday routine, gives him a glimpse of what it is like for many MS patients on a daily basis. I love him for that. I have such respect for all of the players who spend this day to raise money for MS. Thank you! ~ Lisa
