Personal thoughts about this game 10-02-10

My brother Brian's thoughts about playing the Turkey Bowl year after year is that the soreness he feels the next day and the difficulty he has moving around during his normal everyday routine, gives him a glimpse of what it is like for many MS patients on a daily basis. I love him and all the players for that. My thoughts about all these young men and women who spend their personal time to raise money to help an MS Aquatics program, and especially for helping raise money so I may try some treatments and get some badly needed tests since I have no health insurance. My last MRI was taken in 2000 and I had a really bad episode in '05 with new symptoms, where I believe there are now more lesions. At present my worst symptom is literally not being able to fall asleep, not even nap. My heart just feels like it is going to pop out of my chest, it has been years and I'm thinking this is not such a good thing. There is another test that could help explain why this is happening, it is new and goes along with the MRI it is called CCSVI Explanation of Multiple Sclerosis.  I am not sure exactly what can be done about this but would like to find out. Thanks the the Turkey Bowl, I was able to find out what foods my body has an allergen to, I think this helps but probably would have helped even more if there was such a test when I was 13.  I have such respect for all of the players who spend this day to raise money personally for me and for the MS aquatics program and in the end, end up really sore the next day! This game has become a generational game, it's so fun to see some of the original players on the field with their boys and girls!

Thank you for all your help! ~ Lisa

Turkey Bowl History

The original game actually began in high school for a bunch of guys who had nothing to do on the day after Thanksgiving.  Eventually this group of guys from Lisle High School class of '79 (my brother Brian and some of his friends) started a pick up touch football game just for fun.  As time went on a teacher suggested that if they are just goofing around, they might think about playing to raise money to help a charity.  I believe in the first game played the money raised went to Muscular Dystrophy.   By summer 1975 I began displaying symptoms that eventually would be diagnosed as Multiple Sclerosis, so the game's donations switched to MS.  I'm so grateful to everyone who helped raise money for Turkey Bowl XXXII that money raised helped me to get a vaccine treatment started, it works great!!!  I have also finally decided to change my diet to eating only anti-inflammatory foods after seriously reading & looking into why that appears to have worked for quite a few MS patients.  This is a link to the MS patients who cured their symptoms through diet alone. So I have decided to start using both treatments in conjunction with each other hoping that my recovery time will happen a bit quicker than the average time of 4-5 years through diet alone. I figure there is only one way to find out so I'm going for it full throttle!  The vaccine I'm using is the same vaccine that Alan Osmond has been using for about the past 3 years. The dietary changes were my idea, it was never recommended to me by anyone from Argyll Biotechnologies, the makers of the Immunosyn (SF1019)vaccine.  I'm out of the wheelchair now and just using my cane and sometimes no cane at all!!!   I have a long way to go, but will stay the course, the treatment is slow going,  an MS patient needs to look for subtle changes that eventually turn into bigger ones like not needing my wheelchair to get around the house!  It will be interesting to see where I am by Turkey Bowl XXXIII!  I want to say thanks to anyone who was kind enough to donate to my treatment fund last year, I now have some kind donors who would like to remain anonymous helping me out so that I may continue with treatment that is working so well! If the economy gets in the way of that I will just remain diligent with the dietary changes.  Thank you players so much I could not have started this successful therapy without all of you raising the money I so desperately needed ! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

I love you all so much for your help, you've changed my life!  - Lisa Quick

The picture to the left was taken Father's Day ! My mom had this quilt made with many of the past TB t-shirts, he was so surprised and pleased! It was a great day for a great guy!

The talented seamstress who made this beautiful quilt is, Deanne Theodore. In a few weeks she will have a link to more of her information through The Gathering Light website. I of course will list that info when I receive it! Awesome job!!!

Eric contacted Brian a few years back to offer to sing the National Anthem before the Turkey Bowl games. He was very gracious to do so, we had not thought to do that before. What prompted him to make this generous offer was that he also had a sister named Linda with Multiple Sclerosis, unfortunately she lost her battle. It is because of the many MS patients like Linda and my friend Scot  who have died from this non-fatal disease that I will pursue spreading my belief that diet is key! ~ Lisa
