11-14-08  It has come to my attention that some MS patients have been using the Mediterranean Diet. I had never looked into that until yesterday, and found this quote from the above link;

"About eighteen countries border the Mediterranean Sea. Countries with very different cultures, religions, ethnic background, economy and agricultural production. It’s difficult to say that there is only one Mediterranean Diet. Anyway, the common Mediterranean dietary pattern has these characteristics:

• high intake of vegetables, fruits, bread, pasta and other cereals, potatoes, beans, nuts and seeds

• olive oil is the most important fat source and almost the unique vegetable oil used.

• The proportion of dairy products, fish and poultry is low to moderate. Not much red meat is eaten

• eggs are consumed from one to four times a week

• wine is consumed regularly and is a habit in the meals, but in low to moderate amounts (except in Muslim countries).
By the way, many people, even Institutions as Empowered Hospital write:"

With the gluten free diet most of the foods listed above are not used especially dairy except for goat cheese or milk, no beans, wine, only gluten free bread, cereals & pastas. For me personally I also have scalp psoriasis (another autoimmune disease) and quickly noticed a huge difference in how my scalp now hardly itches and there is no scaling since I quit eating eggs. I eat chicken and turkey but no red meat or pork. Unfortunately it appears to me that each individual person will need to experiment to see what foods might have a bad effect on your MS symptoms. Yes, this is a huge pain in the ass! I may need to give up chicken since not eating eggs has helped a lot, but I'm not yet ready to do that. So I will continue with this new way of eating even though it will likely take a few years to heal up as best I can. Just food for thought. Never give up! ~ Lisa

11-10-08  I'm so thankful to all of the MS patients who have written such informative books about how changing to a diet of eating anti-inflammatory foods only does make a world of difference in ridding the body of inflammation and MS symptoms. It is not a quick fix it is forever, though a "cheat" every once in a blue moon is not the end of the world. I consider my website my book of sorts. I was always looking for something online like this where I could follow along with another MS patient as they tried new treatments like diet & amalgam removal. My next big treatment will be having my 9 amalgam fillings removed, that will be fascinating to see what happens then, I hope you follow along. Never give up! ~Lisa

09-26-08  Please don't think I'm that I'm so naive that I don't have doubts that my balance and ability to fall asleep can truly come back through diet alone, that at the moment seems possible after 33 years of this crap!  Only one way to find out so I will continue with my Gluten free diet & Immunosyn treatment in the hopes that I can curb my MS and hopefully have some form of recovery.  From reading about others experiences with only diet treating MS, the average time seems to be around 4-5 years. My biggest hope would be to cut that time maybe in half. ? I guess we will find out. When I am doing a bit better I will go see my Neurologist and get his opinion. My GP already believes that diet is key. I've always been very stubborn that's why I never gave these dietary changes a try. I'll admit it...I was wrong! I sure wish I Knew this 33 years ago! Better late than never!

Be well ~ Lisa

Honestly I never believed that diet would really make a difference...the Neurologist's I went to all told me that diet would make no difference, it would not help.   So I didn't rock the boat, well I tried the recommended ABC type drugs...nothing!  I am rocking the boat now!  All these 33 years I've been existing with this crappy disease and all this time if I just would have changed my diet to eliminate inflammatory foods like sugar, dairy, white flour to name a few I could have kicked this nasty disease to the curb.  I've been very fortunate to have been able to use the Immunosyn (SF1019) Vaccine which also helps eliminate inflammation.  It is simply my opinion, I may not be all better but I'm walking with my cane and getting stronger every day.  I've had MS for decades I certainly don't expect for it to go away with just a few shots.  It appears to me after reading some of the books below that these MS patients who recovered through diet alone on average took 4 years for recovery.  I started the vaccine May 15, 2007 my last injection was on June 23, 2008.   I'm hoping I can keep going without another injection, but I would use another if needed.  My hope here is that the lifetime dietary changes I have made will be all I will need to recover.  I'm not so naive that I think I will be better in a few months, there is a lot of damage to this body I'm sure it will still take a good amount of time to heal completely.  I personally believe from my own continuing experience that if MS patients change their diets to eating non inflammatory foods and can use this Immunosyn (SF1019) vaccine that also reduces inflammation that MS patients will heal more quickly than through diet alone.  I would still highly recommend the dietary changes so that when the vaccine is readily available that it could be added.   It sure appears that Dr. Swank was right all along!

Don't take my word for it but please look into this exciting possibility. Google away!  ~ Lisa
